Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbor Bridge is an Australian heritage site through the Sydney Harbor Bridge, which carries trains, cars, bicycles and pedestrians between the Sydney Business District (CBD) and the North Shore. The view of the bridge, the harbor, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is considered to be the dominant image of Sydney, as well as Australia itself. The bridge is nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its top-notch design.

Under the direction of John Bradfield of the New South Wales Department of Public Works, the bridge was designed and built by the British company Dorman Long of Middlesbrough (who launched the Tyne Bridge in 1928 in Newcastle upon Tyne) and opened in 1932. The typical design of the bridge, which Bradfield gave the Department of Public Works NSW to produce, was a bad copy of Hell Gate Bridge in New York City. This standard document, however, did not form part of the tender application, which was left wide enough to allow for cantilever (Bradfield's original preference) and suspension bridge proposals. The design chosen in response to the tenders was the first work done by Dorman Long, who designed one of the designs on their Tyne Bridge which, although similar, does not share the beautiful flames at the edges of each arch. 134 (440 ft) from top to bottom. It was also the world's largest bridge, 48.8 m (160) ft) wide, until the completion of the new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver in 2012.

The Sydney Harbor Bridge was further added to the Australian National Heritage List on 19 March 2007 and the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 25 June 1999.

The southern boundary of the bridge is located at Dawes Point in The Rocks, and north of Milsons Point in the lower North Shore. There are the first six lanes of highway, as well as two other lanes on its eastern side, using the former railways. Near road traffic, the pedestrian walkway runs on the east side of the bridge, while the pedestrian path only works on the west side; between the main road and the bicycle west west lies the North Shore railway line.
