Interlaken Monastery and Castle

More than one kilometer of walkways lead through the chambers and passageways of those hillside caves, where legend holds that a dragon took shelter when hunted by the monk, Beatus, whose hermitage was nearby. But the geology is not any legend, and you'll tour these underground caverns to ascertain mirror lakes, underground waterfalls, stalactites, and stalagmites amid a guide or at your own speed employing a descriptive app. the whole area is sort of beautiful, with a series of waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. you'll get here by bus from Interlaken (it's a few 10-minute walk from the bus stop) or by boat from Interlaken West station, but it's quite steep climb from the lake to the caves.

Located within the heart of town, the old Augustinian monastery of Interlaken was first documented in 1133. Following the reformation in around 1525, the whole monastery was acquired by the state of Bern and subsequently converted into a hospital. Today it's the seat of the district administrative office of Interlaken-Oberhasli; the history-steeped buildings also house the registry office for Oberland Ost. The steeple of the previous abbey church, dating from the first 14th century, is particularly impressive. Visit the Gothic cloister gallery within the old courtyard and therefore the chapel dating from 1452.The extraordinary complex of historic buildings is an architectural gem.
