Madrid Spanish is the capital and most
populous city in Spain. The city has a population of about 3.3 million and a
city of about 6.5 million people. It is the second largest city in the European
Union (EU), surpassed only by Berlin, and its metropolitan area has the second
largest in the EU, surpassed only by Paris The municipality covers 604.3 km
(233.3 sq mi).
Madrid lies along the Manzanares River in the

Interest Oversight Board (PIOB). It also hosts major international regulators
and promoters of the Spanish language: Standing Committee of the Association of
Spanish Language Academies, headquarters of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE),
Instituto Cervantes and the Foundation of Urgent Spanish (Fundéu BBVA). Madrid
is organizing shows such as FITUR, ARCO, SIMO TCI and Madrid Fashion Week.
While Madrid has modern infrastructure, it
retains the look and feel of its many historical sites and streets. Its
landmarks include the Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace of Madrid; the Royal Theater
and its Opera House restored in 1850; Buen Retiro Park, founded in 1631;
19th-century National Library building (founded in 1712) containing some of the
Spanish monuments; Many national museums, including the Golden Triangle of Art,
are located near Paseo del Prado and contain three art museums: the Prado
Museum, the Reina SofÃa Museum, a state-of-the-art museum, and the
Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, completing two other museums. Cibeles Palace and
Fountain have become one of the city's landmark monuments.
