Star Ferry

Star Ferry is a passenger boat operator and attracts tourists to Hong Kong. Its main passenger routes cross Victoria Victoria, between Hong Kong Island, and Kowloon. The service is run by the Star Ferry Company, founded in 1888 as the Kowloon Ferry Company, and adopted its current name in 1898.

With 12 vessels, the company operates two lanes across the harbor, carrying more than 70,000 passengers a day, or 26 million a year. Although the harbor crosses the railway line and the tunnel, Star Ferry continues to provide a cheap mode for crossing the harbor. The company's main route runs between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Before the first steam boat was set up, people crossed the harbor in sampans. In 1870 a man named Grant Smith brought a two-masted wooden canoe from England and began moving it to the harbor at the wrong time.

In July 1873, an effort was made to move steamboats between Hong Kong and Kowloon. This was stopped at the request of a British lawyer in Canton, who feared it would lead to a visit to casinos in Kowloon. It is thought that public service was established in the mid-1870s, following the Kowloon dedication to the British in 1860.

Star Ferry accepted the government's request to use the Hung Hom route in 1963, almost failing as the company thought it would not make a profit out of it. [11] However, according to Star Ferry, the route has been confirmed to be operational since March 1965.

Until the opening of the Trans Harbor Tunnel in 1972, Star Ferry continued to be the main public transport route between Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon side.

Star Ferry is working on a franchise from the Government, which was last updated in March 2018.

Star Ferry has announced plans to provide a tour of the area between Tsim Sha Tsui and Disneyland Resort Pier, which have been empty since its opening. The route is two-way and the fare is $ 180. Passengers can enjoy watching the Maing Ma Bridge during a 45-minute ride on the luxurious World Star boat.
